Google Needs Your Help to Celebrate Australia Day!

Posted By Lid On January 24, 2007 @ 9:26 am In Fun | No Comments

The Googlegods have been given permission to fly their plane low (600m) over parts of Sydney on January 26, photographing our great land and want Australians to do whatever it takes to make themselves visible.

Usually Google Maps use images that are taken from way higher, so people appear as little dots; this time they want you to get out there – hold up signs – stand in groups – make up patterns – be bold and you will be seen.

As this is the first time Google is trying this, they don’t know what to expect, but figure it will be fun trying.  The experiment begins at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to end around 2.15 p.m.

A map with times of the flyover can be found here [1] and you will be able to track the route live on January 26.

Check out Google Directory for more stuff happening in the Land Down Under on Australia Day [2].
