Hi there:

Hoping you can help. I read your pdf and all the stuff on this page, but I have a different situation.

I am moving a blog from wordpress.com to a hosted version using wordpress.org on Midphase Hosting.

However, Wordpress.com currently released VideoPress and we want to host the videos through this cool new option - which requires the videos to be hosted at Wordpress.com.

So, can you tell me, if I do this dns move, if I would still be allowed access to my Wordpress.com login to set up and host the videos? I read that you can host on Wordpress.com and then embed them to any site, and just want to make sure I can still use my existing Wordpress.com account to do that.

Not sure you can answer this, but any insights would be very helpful!

@oriste - Yes the FAQ is wrong when setting up WordPress.com to redirect to your self hosted blog. This was the reason we wrote http://blog-well.com/2008/01/27/wordpresscom-to-wordpressorg/ to hopefully bring some sanity to it all.

It's a wee-bit late maybe, but I am utterly confused. On the wordpress.com faq page (http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/09/13/how-do-i-stop-domain-mapping/) it is stated that changing the DNS to the name servers of your self-hosted domain will stop the re-direction (stop the domain mapping, in their words: "The domain name in Option > Domains has no effect at all if you have changed the DNS."). This is diametrically opposite of Matt's own explanation above. They can't both be right i.m.h.o. Which one is wrong? Oh god, please, please, please, let the FAQ be wrong!!!
